The Journey of Board Housewife Design
The story of Board Housewife Design has a journey so long, it needs a passport. From the exotic wood sourced worldwide to the different states and locations these first batches of boards traveled, each piece tells the story of how and why I started this company.
In 2020, I was a stay-at-home mom of twin three-year-olds. During COVID, I got back into painting, but then I took a complete 180-degree shift into my husband's hobby—woodworking. When my kids went off to kindergarten, I took over his hobby and started learning the trade. With a love for woodworking passed down through generations, I was hooked. As a creative outlet, I began crafting charcuterie boards and cutting boards from exotic hardwoods. What started as a personal endeavor quickly grew into a family business, fueled by a demand for beauty, quality, and timeless design.
Over that first year, I made 60 boards out of my third-bedroom condo in Chicago, which came with its own challenges. So, I took our boards everywhere—to my parents' and in-laws' backyards, the basement of a home ready for teardown, and even the front deck of our condo overlooking bustling Lincoln Ave. in Chicago. Anywhere I could work, I did. It’s the true American dream—creating something out of nothing. From paintbrushes to saws and sanders, I feel so blessed to have shown my kids how to start from scratch, build something, persevere, and see where the journey takes you.
Now operating from the suburbs, Board Housewife Design has expanded to larger pieces and offers custom orders—including tables!
